The musée d’Orsay is a French national museum installed in the former Orsay railway station, built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900. So the building itself could be seen as the first "work of art" in the Musee d'Orsay, which displays collections of art from 1848 to 1914. It shows the great diversity of artistic creation in the western world during this period. It is internationally known for its collection of impressionist paintings, including many masterpieces from Vincent van Gogh, but many other disciplines are represented in the museum: sculpture – objets d’art – graphic art – architecture – photography and cinematography.
